'Dieter Brandt is one of a few professional architects who engage the project of architecture in
South Africa with a commitment to furthering its global status. Emerging into the profession on the
cusp of the post-apartheid era, he has managed to establish a coherent and relevant position for himself. His significance resides in his ability to engage contemporary issues and subsequently
create an architectural form that is socially and poetically informed. This position is both
sensitive to the exigencies of a developing context whilst simultaneously relevant and competitive within the larger world and the production of exemplary architecture.'

‘I have fully enjoyed the breadth and scope of his thinking as he has sought to place his own identity and history in its rightful context whilst remaining fully aware of the contradictions that his position embodies and the opportunities it presents. His approach to architecture has always been of a highly inter-disciplinary nature and his interests have ranged far and wide, engaging with the built environment at a number of different scales’
