Dieter’s experience in exhibition design includes the art direction of the South African Pavilion at the 10th International Venice Biennale 2006, also showcased at RIBA. He curated the Drawing on Origins exhibition at Gauteng Institute for Architects with Nirox Foundation and Prelude to Last Supper at Maboneng as part of the United Nations Peace Day.

A GIfA& NIROX Foundation co-production hosted by Dieter Brandt & Elena Rocchi.

Drawing on Origins  was the product of this exciting and thought-provoking series of workshops that explored the relationship between drawing and thinking in three states, 'up and above', 'surface movement' and 'below ground'.
A result of the fascinating insight given to us by Lee Berger, into the world of the two million-year-old Australopithecus sediba that was uncovered in the Malapa cave network in the Cradle of Humankind, followed by a flood of related discoveries which have enthralled the world.

The participants have worked together with NIROX Foundation artist-in-residence Elena Rocchi to produce an explorative body of work that investigates our origins and the overlap between architecture and archaeology.
The result is an imagined city, a utopia of origins.
